2013-2014 TIMELINE

Girl Scout destinations is your chance to go somewhere new, do something different, and meet people from everywhere you can imagine.  Applying for a Girl Scout destination helps girls to gain practical life skills. Use this timeline to keep track of important dates.

 Girls complete one application for each Girl Scout destination event (up to FOUR) they wish to apply for. Girls may choose to submit their application by the “early” or “late” deadline.

 Girl Scouts of Utah will help fund up to one-fourth (1/4) of the cost of ONE destination per girl.

 Two references are required for each application. Girls can use the same two references for each event they apply for.

September 2013

 Girl Scout destinations 2014 event descriptions and application form are updated at www.girlscouts.org/forgirls/travel/destinations

 Girls, parents, and troop advisors visit the Girl Scouts of Utah website activities page to attend
a destination training. Each participant learns about events, the application process, references, and how to finance a Girl Scout destination.

November 2013

 November 15th – “Early” application deadline. All “early” applications must be received at the Girl Scouts of Utah CRC in Salt lake City on or before this deadline. All “early” applications nationwide must be en route to event sponsors from the applicants home council by Thanksgiving.

December 2013

 December 3rd – All “early” applications received by event sponsors. Applications are due to be received by event sponsors. Local councils nationwide meet this deadline for all “early” applicants by forwarding completed applications. Selection process for “early” applications begins.

January 2014

 January 16th – All applicants are notified of their status for “early” applications. Girls are notified of their status for “early” applications. Event status is posted at www.girlscouts.org/forgirls/travel/destinations to show which events are FULL.

 January 24th – destination Scholarship deadline for “early” applicants. destination Scholarship applications are due to Girl Scouts of Utah CRC in Salt Lake City.

 January 31st – “Late” application deadline. This is the deadline for “late” applications to be received at Girl Scouts of Utah CRC in Salt Lake City.


February 2014

 February 1st – Deposit deadline for “early” applicants. Non-refundable deposits to hold a participant’s spot are due to event sponsors for “early” applicants.

 February 18th – All “late” applicants received by event sponsors. Applications are due to be received by event sponsors. Local councils nationwide meet this deadline for all “late” applicants by forwarding completed applications. Selection process for “late” applications begins.

March 2014

 March 4th – All applicants are notified of their status for “late” applicants. Girls and councils are notified of acceptance status for “late” applications. Event status is posted at www.girlscouts.org/forgirls/travel/destinations to show which events are FULL.

 March 12th – destination Scholarship deadline for “late” applicants. destination Scholarship applications are due to Girl Scouts of Utah CRC in Salt Lake City.

 March 18th – Deposit deadline for “late” applicants. Non-refundable deposits to hold a participant’s spot are due to event sponsors for “early” applications.

April-August 2014

 Girls prepare for and participate in Girl Scout destinations. Girls might visit other troops, make swaps, research the culture for the place they will visit, borrow/buy any special equipment needed, and begin a travel journal. Use the online resources at www.girlscouts.org/forgirls/travel.

June-September 2014

 Girl Scout destinations participants Take Action by preparing to share their experience with others and doing one or more of the following:
o Send thank you to all those who helped to support your destination.
o Create a scrapbook, display, video, blog, or other way to share your experience.
o Send event photos and a short essay about your trip to jgoldman@gsutah.org.
o Contact your Community Leadership Team, other troops, and Girl Scouts of Utah to make at least two presentations to other girls about Girl Scout destinations and your experience.

 September 30th – destination Scholarship deadline. Girls who received a council destination Scholarship for 2014 Girl Scout destinations submit the form and supporting documents two weeks following the event and no later than September 30th.
